Cloud Backend Developer

Now we’re looking for a new Cloud Backend Developer to join our team.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Own backend services end to end – from the data model to production behaviour;
  • Design data models for new features in our document databases, and evolve existing ones as usage grows;
  • Design how services talk to each other, to client apps, and to third-party APIs;
  • Debug and resolve production issues;
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests.

Our tech stack:

Python (FastAPI), Kotlin (Ktor), DigitalOcean, Kubernetes, Couchbase, MongoDB, Redis, RabbitMQ, Grafana, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.

Examples of tasks:

  • Design the data model for a new feature (e.g. sharing projects across organizations) and migrate existing data without downtime;
  • Replace a synchronous third-party integration with a queue-based flow – retries, idempotency, failure handling;
  • Design how project updates propagate from device to cloud and on to other users’ apps, including conflict resolution;
  • Stream a receiver’s live position from the mobile app through the cloud to the web app, so a colleague can watch it move on a map in real time;
  • Extend the billing module to support a new payment provider.

Requirements:

  • Fluency with Python;
  • 5+ years of commercial experience designing resilient backend services and APIs, and working with distributed systems;
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, and comfort operating services in Kubernetes;
  • Ability to take a loosely defined problem, scope it with the right questions, and own the outcome in a fast-moving team;
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English at an Upper-intermediate (B2) level or higher.

Your advantage would be:

  • Knowledge of Kotlin or another JVM language;
  • Experience designing document/NoSQL data models – Couchbase, MongoDB, or similar;
  • Experience working in a product-focused environment;
  • Experience handling complex B2B/SaaS systems.
